In his pamphlet, 'Common Sense', Thomas Paine wrote, 'It is the good fortune of many to live distant from the scene of sorrow'.
For many years, the 'scenes of sorrow', such as operations and development teams, were hidden away from the rest of our organisations. However, as IT systems became baked into what businesses do, that distance began to close. And now we have CIOs and Chief Architects who not only care about ops teams, virtualisation and feedback cycles, but who also understand them.
In a way then, people across organisations are really starting to share the pain. Sharing the pain is one of the precursors to systematic changes. This makes the dev, ops and even the DevOps worlds interesting places to be right now.
